Open enrollment for the health marketplace may have closed at midnight on March 31, 2014, but that doesn't mean that everyone is out of luck if they need coverage.

According to Jennifer Busch, a health insurance navigator for Genesis Health System, there are a number of qualifying events that would determine eligibility for Health Marketplace enrollment.

"A job loss, losing health coverage and a change in marital status are all possible qualifying events,'' Busch said.  "Now that we have momentum from the enrollment period, we want to remind people that it is possible to  qualify and enroll in health marketplace benefits throughout the year.''

According to a Genesis spokesperson, the EnrollQC enrollment center will remain open to answer questions and assist individuals in to enroll through June 30, 2014.

Some qualifying events for marketplace eligibility include losing insurance, losing a job and job-based insurance coverage, losing benefits because of divorce, expiration of COBRA benefits, turning 27 years old and gaining citizenship.

Medicaid enrollment continues throughout the year for those whose incomes are below 138% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

Also, anyone experiencing difficulties with their new insurance coverage can seek help with the health insurance navigators.

For more information, the navigators can be reached at 563-421-3675.
