Jacob Bancks says he is living the dream. The thirty two year Augustana College instructor is making his mark in the world of concert music.

Sitting behind a piano, with pencil and paper, Bancks says he is in his native habitat. His comfort zone.

Bancks is a musical composer of concert music. He writes everything out in pencil.

Bancks was an early bloomer. He composed his first piece when he was in kindergarten. It was a tune about the months of the year.

Ever since he was a child, Jacob had a passion for composing music.

Recently, the gifted composer hit it big when his piece Rock Island Line was performed by the Quad City Symphony Orchestra.

It's a musical composition about the railroad.

He has written compositions for piano soloists and also for The President's Own United States Marine Band.

There are times Jacob will devote four and a half hours a day to composing new music.

Sometimes composing a minute's worth of music  can take a couple of weeks of work. Jacob also teaches composition and music theory at Augustana.

He calls it a perfect mix, enjoying musical composition and teaching.

He says if the performer is happy and feels like Jacob's piece has gone well, that is an amazing feeling.
