Rock Island Students Get College Visitors

Posted: Updated:

Elementary students in Rock Island are thinking about their futures. Students at the Rock Island Center for Math and Science got a taste of the college life Wednesday morning when students, professors and coaches from St. Ambrose University shared career possibilities.

It was all part of "St. Ambrose Day", a day focused on getting elementary students ready for college and careers. From journalism to occupational therapy, the young students heard about a wide variety of career paths that they could follow.

The school principal says it encourages young students to starting thinking ahead.

"We felt that maybe this would be a nice way for children to say 'oh, I could do that. I could become that. Oh, I could learn that because that professor told me about this,'" said Ruth Ann Tobey-Brown, Principal of the Rock Island Center for Math and Science.

The visitors from SAU shared their experiences on everything from college life to how they made their career choices.
