Moline To Revitalize Three Neighborhoods

Posted: Updated:

MOLINE, IL – Three neighborhoods along the river in Moline are taking a step forward tin the city's revitalization plan -- The Edgewater Neighborhood, the Floreciente Neighborhood, and Moline Centre Neighborhood.

The city of Moline wants to expand the core of businesses and use vacant buildings for new developments.  Business owners say they are pleased with what the city is doing.

Some plans include rebuilding houses, paving streets and sidewalks.

Miguel Rosas, who owns New Style Barbershop in Floreciente District, says little things like repaving sidewalks will make his storefront look nicer and bring in more business. Rosas is both a business owner and resident in Floreciente. He says his neighborhood has come a long way in the past two decades, but the work is just beginning.

Rosas says, "I think the whole revitalization plan is a great idea. It's definitely bringing people to the area, what it's going to do in the future is create more jobs. It looks good for the neighborhood when everything starts to look nicer."

The city of Moline says the planning process has been open to the public. They have conducted stakeholder meetings and also done neighborhood walks with residents. They are also holding public workshops to make residents aware of plans.

Jeff Anderson, Moline City Planner, lists many possible projects including streets and sidewalks, housing rehabilitation, and enhancing transition areas between residential and industrial neighborhoods.  Anderson says, "Those are all things that we look at in terms of making the neighborhood a better place to live."

As the city rebuilds Floreciente District block by block, residents and business owners like Miguel Rosas are looking forward to welcoming more neighbors into the community.

Rosas says, "Houses starting to look nicer, building and store fronts looking better for the community. It's definitely good for the future."
