Swimming Sensation

Posted: Updated:

Why crawl when you can fly! That's the attitude eleven year old Isaac Hays has every time he goes swimming.

Hays is from Eldridge. He is a profile in courage.

Isaac was born with a right leg shorter than the left. His right arm is also shorter than the left. He is also missing some fingers.

However, the word limitation does not enter into his vocabulary. No excuses.

Isaac swims for the Dragons at the North Family YMCA in Davenport.

One of his favorite events is the butterfly. His mother Ruth says her son has good form.

James Browning from the Y says the young man has learned to make remarkable adjustments in the pool.

Isaac says the only thing he thinks about as a swimmer is getting from one end of the pool to the other.

He also helps out during swim lessons at the Y, encouraging kids  to be the very best they can be.

A can do spirit!

His tee shirt says it all. Why crawl when you can fly!
