Tornadoes Reported in Iowa Sunday Night

Posted: Updated:

We're learning more about reports of tornadoes from Kalona, Lone Tree and West Liberty, Ia. Sunday night.

So far, no injuries or significant damage have been reported.

TV6 drove around the Lone Tree and West Liberty area Monday morning and didn't find any damage. Muscatine County Emergency Management and West Liberty Police also confirmed there was no damage in the area despite the tornado reports.

People in West Branch also said they saw funnel clouds, but Cedar County deputies said the tornado did not touch down there.

Tornado warnings were also in effect in Clinton and Jackson counties Sunday night, but dispatch workers in both counties both said there were no reports of damage. Clinton County dispatch only mentioned some downed tree limbs.

Some people posted pictures and video, like this one, to Facebook and Twitter showing what the tornado in Lone Tree looked like.

And a man in West Liberty described what he saw as he was driving from Iowa City to West Branch Sunday night.

"I was driving home from Iowa City last night - around 6:15, 6:20 p.m. - and it was really raining kind of hard so I couldn't see that much," said Nick Van Every. "Then it kind of stopped raining and I saw debris in the air. I looked up about 150 yards away from me - there's a tornado."

Van Every went on to say the tornado looked as though it were dancing in the area – dipping down and rising back up several times as it moved toward West Branch.

This morning, he and others in the area said they are glad no one was injured and there are no reports of significant damage.
