She is five years old, has a twin brother, and is a very courageous little girl.

Sydney Mowen is a fighter. She was born with a congenital heart defect, and has undergone five open heart surgeries.

Her father Jim says the bigger surgeries have been for valve related issues.

Jim calls his little girl a hero with an amazing will to live.

Jennifer Mowen, Sydney's mother, says eight weeks into her pregnancy, doctors suspected something was wrong with Sydney's heart.

Sydney's first surgery came when she was only a week old.

Three of her surgeries took place in Chicago. Two were in Boston.

Despite all of the surgeries, the five year old is doing well, started kindergarten last fall, and is a very active little girl.

She and her twin brother Niklas are best buddies. Recently, the Mowen's and their children went to Disney World, courtesy of Make A Wish Foundation.

During the trip, the children rode amusements, met with the Disney characters, and Sydney was treated like a princess.

Sydney's life depends on a pacemaker. One of her heart valves was donated.

Her pulmonary valve was re-arranged.

Little Niklas is in great health.

The Mowens'  grandparents live in Moline.

The family wants  people to know that there is hope for children born with CHD. That there are options to correct heart defects and enhance a child's quality of life.

Sydney Mowen is living proof!
