Drive carefully on Mt. Pleasant St. in the Burlington area where there is a huge hole in the road. The West Burlington City Administrator says it's the size of an SUV and about eight feet deep.

Apparently there was a water main that broke under the road and has been leaking for quite a while. It eroded all the soil under the road and eventually the concrete collapsed. The water main is right next to a storm sewer and the water was leaking into the sewer which is why it went unnoticed for so long. He says it was first noticed around 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 on a section of the road that borders West Burlington and Burlington.

The street is blocked off with cones and repairs are under way. It will take a few days before repairs are complete and the road reopens to traffic.
