13 Dead in Mount Everest Avalanche

Posted: Updated:

NBC is reporting an avalanche at mount Everest has killed 13 Sherpa guides.

Investigators say the guides had ventured out early Friday morning to fix ropes for hundreds of climbers when the avalanche struck.

Eleven of the 13 bodies have been recovered so far, and rescuers are in the process of recovering the other two bodies.

Four other people were hurt, with two in critical condition.

Hundreds of climbers and their guides had gathered at the base camp, preparing for their final attempt to scale the 29-thousand-foot mountain early next month.
