Posted: Updated:
A 17-year-old has been sentenced in Whiteside County Juvenile Court for his part in a fire that destroyed much of downtown Prophetstown last year. In July 2013, the then 16-year-old boy and his 12 year old brother were accused of starting the early morning fire in a recycling bin behind a restaurant. The fire quickly spread and a total of eight buildings and several businesses were destroyed.

The boys faced charges of arson and felony criminal damage to property.

On Tuesday, April 22, 2014, the older boy was sentenced to five years probation or until he turns 21. The younger brother was sentenced to probation earlier.
