The shopping corridor along John Deere Road in Moline is rapidly changing. While new stores have popped up and the Mall undergoes redevelopment, another retailer seized the opportunity to set-up a hiring center as it gets ready to open a new store. Sam's Club held a ribbon-cutting Thursday at its new hiring and membership center, located inside SouthPark Mall, the same day the mall started demolition on the vacant Sears store and food court.

"We're trying to let the community know that we're here and accepting applications for employment as well as memberships so that everyone's ready to shop on grand opening day," said Aaron Greene with Sam's Club.

He says the mall was an ideal place to set up a temporary location while their new warehouse store is being built off John Deere Road (6600 44th Ave.) in Moline. Greene says the space, next to Dillard's Department store, was available and allows them to take advantage of mall traffic to get the word out.

Sam's plans to hire 200 full-time and part-time employees. The pay ranges from minimum wage to 12 or 13 dollars an hour, Greene said. He says the company is confident that shoppers can support two clubs in the area, with a store already located in Davenport.

"Moline's a great community. Members in the Quad Cities have been great to Sam's Club and have been asking for a Sam's Club on this side of the river for a long time," Greene said.

The new Sam's Club in Moline is expected to open in August.
