It's National Drug Take-Back day, an initiative aimed at curbing prescription drug abuse and overdose deaths. Drop-off sites were set up across the QCA including in Rock Island County.

Community members dropped off a variety of medication.  "Heart medication, kidney medication, kidney medications, water pills, vitamins, that kind of stuff," said Gary Peterson.  "My father passed away the end of February and he was on about 20 other medications. i cleaned out his cupboard in the kitchen and this is a good way to get rid of them "

While organizers welcome medicine from anyone, they say their main goal is to get them off the streets and out of the hands of the wrong people. "A lot of young people today who when looking  for ways to have fun, they have what's called pill parties and they will throw pills out on the table and they will turn around and take whatever they're getting," said Grace Shirk with The C.A.U.S.E. "They're getting these pills right at home. out of medicine cabinets and grandmas medicine cabinets."

The organization collected six boxes of prescription medicine from the Rock Island county community. The boxes will go to the DEA, where they'll be burned.
