One Dead, Two Injured after Storm in Keokuk County

Posted: Updated:

One person is dead and two people are injured in Keokuk County after strong storms moved across the area Sunday, the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office confirms.

A county official said there is significant damage across Keokuk County. People there have reported uprooted trees, downed power lines and debris strewn across the ground.

Gary Sampson, a resident of Kinross, said the wind was so strong where he lives, the wind picked his fire pit up out of the brick ring it was in and carried it to the neighbor’s yard.

Just across the road from him, a storage shed roof was torn off and metal siding was tossed over hay stacks.

“I thought wow at first. Then I thought at least it isn’t like the big tornado came through in the 80s,” said Sampson.
