Davenport Student Awarded $20,000 Scholarship

Posted: Updated:
A student at Davenport Central High School got quite a surprise Monday after she was called to the office.
"Hi?" said Madison West as she slowly entered a room full of people and TV cameras. That's when Madison was told she had been awarded the $20,000 Dr.  Thomas Anthony Dooley Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is given to a Davenport Community School District senior who is planning to become a medical doctor.

Madison says the scholarship will help her pay for all the anticipated college expenses.
"This will cover a good portion of tuition I have left to pay for undergraduate, that's an immense help, start preparing for graduate studies sooner," Madison said.

Aside from interest in the medical field, the scholarship is also based on class rank, ACT score an essay and an interview.
