Body Of Missing Lee County Woman Found In Rock River

A woman who went missing in Lee County, Ill. Tuesday morning was found dead, later that night in the Rock River.

The Lee County Sheriff's Department says they received a call around 5:24 p.m. on April 29, 2014, asking for help finding 56-year-old Melva M. Meridith.

Meridith left her home in Rock River Estates around 9:00 a.m. that morning and hadn't been heard from since.

Around 7:31 p.m., the sheriff's office received a report that a car was found in the Rock River near the Rock River Estates boat launch.

The Dixon Rural Fire Department was able to reach the submerged car and confirm that no one was inside.

They continued to search and found the body of a female down stream from the car.

The body was later identified as Meridith.

The incident remains under investigation.
