Admiring Alex

Posted: Updated:

He is a fifteen year old high school freshman, admired for his "can do" attitude. Alex Leonard attends Pleasant Valley High School and is an inspiration.

Alex was born with a severe hearing loss which was diagnosed when he was nine months old.

His mother Kelley says it was difficult, not knowing what the quality of life would be for her little boy.

Today, Alex wears cochlear implants, small devices which help to provide a sense of sound.

The results for him are remarkable.  His hearing has improved, and he continues to learn English.

He has mild hearing loss.

Alex participates in the high school drama club, the choir and band. He also takes hip hop dance lessons.

His mother says her son is fearless about participating in activities which almost predominately involve hearing.

Pleasant Valley music instructor Robert Williams says Alex thrives on a challenge. His passion and enthusiasm inspire other students and they respond to that.

Alex reminds people to not allow a disability to get in the way. With a positive attitude, there are really no limitations!
