QCA School Children Exercise For A Cause

Posted: Updated:
Quad City kids are getting active and channeling their energy to help others.

On Friday, hundreds of children participated in the annual Jog-A-Thon at Ridgeview Elementary School in East Moline. The kindergarten through fourth grade students were jogging around the track at the Soule Bowl to raise money for their school.

"It's their personal best, whether that's, you know, they jog one-lap, walk a few or they run all of them. It's just encouraging kids to be healthy and active." said Ridgewood Principal Helen Lensing.
Organizers say the 450 students had 20 minutes per grade to see how many laps they could complete around the track after collecting pledges to raise money for a climbing wall in their gym. After their hard work, all the kids got to enjoy a field day and carnival.

In Fulton, students at Unity Christian School raised over $3,000 for the American Heart Association by jumping rope, according to P.E teacher Jana Behr. For their good deed, they got to watch as their principal was raised to the school rooftop in a fork lift, provided by a school board member. Then, as part of their reward, the principal threw down treats from his perch.
