Close to 500 Turn Out To Public Hearing On SAU Stadium

Posted: Updated:
After years of discussion with neighbors and more than 20 community meetings, Tuesday night was the first time the St. Ambrose University stadium proposal went before a city commission. Close to 500 people packed into the great hall at the Rivercenter in Davenport. Many of them wearing "Yes SAU stadium" stickers.
The university first got a chance to present the plans followed by questions from Planning and Zoning commission members. Then residents both for and against got a chance to make their voices heard.
"I personally think it's a no brainer. It's not going to hurt anybody, let's do it," said Tom Steinbrecher.
"Nobody has listed the advantages the residents who will be immediately affected will accrue. All advantages listed go to St. Ambrose," said neighbor Vern Murdock.
The plans go through another P&Z commission meeting this month then a public hearing before city council on June 4th followed by three more meetings in June and July.
