Hamilton Elementary Groundbreaking

Posted: Updated:

A major construction and renovation project is getting underway in Moline.

School and city officials held a groundbreaking at Hamilton Elementary School.

The plan triples the size of the school, increasing the capacity to 600 students. The Superintendent says the new building will have an "imaginarium" concept. There will be a media center, a commons with an amphitheater-style staircase where kids can watch presentations, and classrooms will feature garage doors that open to the outside.

"I think the big thing is it's going to allow us to provide better educational opportunities for students," Superintendent Dr. David Moyer said. "Grade levels can work together on different projects. Teachers can work together and teach different kids different skills at the same time so it'll be a lot more about our students as opposed to my students."

The project is expected to be finished by the fall of next year.
