Update: The Iowa Department of Public Safety has released more information about a standoff in Durant Thursday night.

In a news release, the IDPS says Initial reports indicated a female was screaming for help and was possibly injured.

That's when officers from multiple departments responded.

They found that 42-year-old Scott Douglas Oetzel had barricaded himself inside his former home in Durant.

When officers entered the home, they found him dead of an apparent self-inflicted shotgun wound.

The female resident managed to escape after being assaulted by Oetzel.

She was treated and released from the hospital.
