It was a busy day here at the station Friday with our annual secure shred event. Quad Citians turned out big time to safely destroy old papers and documents.

The total amount shredded was about 70,000 pounds, or 35 tons of paper! That translates into the saving of 105 cubic yards of landfill, 595 trees, nearly 270,000 gallons of oil and about 245,000 gallons of water.

Car after car came up the driveway here on Brady Street hill throughout the day, 1,956 vehicles to be exact. It's fun to see the environmental impact from everything shredding that much paper saves. But it's also important to give so many people a change to get rid of their confidential documents safely. Thank you to all who participated.

The event was in partnership with the Better Business Bureau, DHCU Community Credit Union and Cintas.
