A Wood River, Illinois, man is charged with homicide by vehicle after allegedly striking a two-year-old child with his pickup truck then leaving the scene.

Burlington Police say it happened just before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 outside the Midtown Motel on Mount Pleasant Street.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found that two-year-old Dniyah Angelique Noel Brider had been struck by a vehicle which then fled the scene.

Brider was transported to Great River Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police detectives, following leads, were alerted to the suspect vehicle as being a Dodge truck that was observed leaving the scene at the time of the accident. That vehicle was later located in the Midtown Motel parking lot with evidence that substantiated officers belief in its involvement in the incident.

After further investigation and interviews, detectives concluded that 34-year-old Phillip Michael Evans, of Wood River, Illinois, was the driver of the vehicle that struck Brider.

Evans was arrested and charged with Homicide by Vehicle, a class B felony.

He's being held in the Des Moines County Jail on $25,000 bond, pending a court appearance.
