Inspire Choir

Posted: Updated:

If you want to be inspired, some students at Earl Hanson School in Rock Island have the formula.

Forty, third through sixth grade students practice after school twice a week. The singers are members of Inspire Choir.

These musical ambassadors sing positive songs. Songs which uplift and encourage other people. Jean Mercer is the Choir Director.

The power of positive singing. Mercer says for some students, it’s what gets them to school in the morning. They want to attend Inspire Choir.

Among the songs the students sing are Agents of Change, Don’t Worry, Be Happy, We Sing, and I Was Here.

The students perform for several organizations in the community, including residents and staff at Friendship Manor, staff and residents at Watch Hill Towers, and the Rock Island Rotary.

The school received a grant last year, and that money has helped to provide service opportunities for students.

The choir consists of students who speak seven, different, native languages other than English. So music helps them to become more fluent in English, and provides them with an opportunity to give to others through song.

That’s INSPIRING!
