New Children's Garden At Quad City Botanical Center

Posted: Updated:

A new children's garden at the Quad City Botanical Center is giving kids an interactive glimpse at our environment.

The first phase of the children's garden is open in Rock Island. This part includes a mock-up of the Mississippi River with headwaters and a delta.

Kids will be able to explore the river from Minnesota to Louisiana while hanging out with river creatures. Organizers say it's a great way to educate kids about this important part of our community.

"The river and delta gives kids an opportunity to actually get into the river and learn about water flow and locks and spray features and all of that." executive director Ami Jenkins said.

Organizers hope to have more phases complete in the next few years including a naturalized pond for river head waters and a full garden.
