Klunder Ruled Out As Iowa Cousins Killer

Posted: Updated:
A suspect in the case of the murdered Evansdale, Iowa cousins has been cleared.

Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins disappeared while riding bikes in July of 2012.

Their bodies were found by hunters six months later.

Authorities have now ruled out Michael Klunder as a suspect.

A year ago, Klunder abducted two girls near Dayton, Iowa.

15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard and 12-year-old Dezi Hughes were abducted while walking home from school.

Police say convicted sex offender Michael Klunder abducted the two girls and killed Kathylnn before killing himself.

Klunder had been released from prison just two years before, after serving 20 years for three kidnappings in 1991.

Police say they now know Klunder was not in the area when the cousins disappeared.

Officials say they are still actively working to solve the case.
