Niabi Zoo Baby Monkey Has A Name

Posted: Updated:
The Niabi Zoo baby monkey finally has a name!

The female black and white Colobus monkey was born on December
12, 2013 and after a naming contest was held in April, the newest member of the troop has been named Keeya.

According to Zoo Director Marc Heinzman, Keeya was originally suggested as a finalist choice by one of Niabi
Zoo's zookeepers.

Heinzman says Keeya is an African name which means "resembling a flower."

Three finalist names were chosen by zoo staff, and then voted on by zoo guests
with their pocket change.

The name which collected the greatest dollar amount was declared the winner.

The zoo is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays.
