House Fire in Moline

Posted: Updated:
A Moline, Ill. family is homeless after a fire heavily damaged their home.

Firefighters were called to the 2300 block of South Shore Avenue in the early morning hours of Monday, May 19, 2014.

Crews remained on scene for hours after they arrived to take care of hot spots.

The Fire Chief said he's surprised areas of the house were still smoldering because of the amount of water they used to extinguish the flames.

KWQC's Danielle McCarthy spoke with one of the residents.

The woman said her father was injured as he fell trying to get out of the house but the rest of the family is doing okay.

She said the family woke up to flames on their deck that she believes was started because a heat lamp they had for some baby chickens.

She thinks it somehow must have gotten knocked over.

The family says it could be another couple of days before they're able to look inside the house.
