On Memorial Day, a first for the city of Davenport.

The 49th annual Quad Cities Criterium will take place in the East Village.

Some of the finest bicyclists in the country will race in the event.

They will be racing on a course which is quite different from the one in Rock Island where the event was held for several years.

The Davenport course has a hill and some very tight corners.

The course in Rock Island was flat.

Matt Zimmer of DeWitt is a local favorite. He races professionally and says the harder the course, the better he does.

Josh Klein will race for about 25 minutes around the three quarter of a mile track.

He jokingly says “you’ve got to tell your body to shut up, and tell your legs to keep quiet and keep going.”

Tight corners also make the course challenging. Dozens of racers trying to negotiate a corner meant for five people.

Forty two year old Nikki Fiala is thrilled to be along for the ride. She says the racing is fun, and at her age, she would be happy to keep pace with the younger riders.

Several of the racers say this course should be very spectator friendly, as it winds through the East Village and a residential neighborhood nearby.

This is where the rubber meets the road! The Big Show is just around the corner!
