The ferris wheel is open to the public, taking its first-riders for a spin today and helping a good cause at the same time.

Dozens gathered to take a trip to the top of 110-foot high ferris wheel at Modern Woodmen Park, with part of ticket proceeds going to the Children's Health and Wellness Center of Genesis.

The new attraction features 20 gondolas capable of holding between six to eight people.

Riders tell us this is  an exciting new addition to the Quad-Cities.

"It gets them out and active in their community," Austin Bird of Davenport said. "Out doing things. Its something we really need in Davenport and the QC in general. This is one more great thing to bring to the area."

"We need things like the sky bridge and the ferris wheel, landmarks," Norman Bower of Davenport said. They all scoffed when they built the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but people fly all over the world to see that now. I think we'll get people that cross the Mississippi and beyond to see this. "

Tickets today were 30 dollars for this fundraiser, but they'll be five dollars each for the rest of the season and 50 cents from each ticket sold will go to Genesis.
