Artists show off their work in a "Peep Show" in Rock Island

Posted: Updated:
Art lovers got to take a peep at the District of Rock Island's first Peep show.

Spectators came out to see art cut and created from Peeps marshmallow candies.

Twelve different artists entered this contest and the public votes for its favorite piece of Peeps.

Admission is free but organizers are encouraging all attendees to buy voting coins to help decide the best project.

"It's a chance for the community to be a part of art,"  The District special events coordinator Carl McClaskey said. "So many times you go to art galleries and see art openings, look at the art and talk to the artist. Now you get a chance to get your hands dirty and create art."

Organizers say hundreds came out to support this event, the first of its kind here.

They say they're expecting an even bigger turnout next year.
