Gnats... are the worst.

If you've been outside over the past few days, you know the annoying little bugs are out of control.

But one local company is banking on those pesky pests, and giving Louisa County a boost.

Production is in full swing at Simply Soothing in Columbus Junction.

The line is filling bottles and filling boxes, all in the heart of rural Louisa County.

Something the owners are proud of.

"We were like 98 out of 99 in retail in Louisa County (in Iowa). We don't even have a stoplight," says Simply Soothing Co-owner Freda Sojka. "It's a bedroom county. They talk about bedroom towns, we're a bedroom county, where everyone is working out of town."

Now, after stumbling upon her benchmark product in 2008, Bug Soother, the business is expanding. A task Freda says is tough in Louisa County.

"I want to keep people working," she explains. "Right now, we are so seasonal and depending on the midwest, whether it's gonna be a dry season... That's what drove me to pursue other things, outside the county and outside the state."

Now, the company sells nation and even worldwide, right form Columbus Junction, multiplying sales by 8 times in just a year.

And those numbers are expected to grow even higher this year, all while keeping their operation small, with local workers.

"It's a miracle, says Freda."I'm really resistant to take it out of here."
