WALNUT, IL – The village of Walnut, Illinois is home to less than 1500 people. In a normally quiet town, things took a loud turn this weekend.

Sunset Ridge is a motocross track in Walnut. Before the track was laid down 15 years ago, the land was part of a family farm. But this weekend, they are hosting the world’s longest running ATV racing series.

Pat Cassidy, the owner’s sister, says, “It’s always been a dream to be able to hold these large competitions like this. And this for the ATV community is one of the biggest in the country.”

There were racers as young as four-years-old. There were also some of the nation’s best.

Hundreds of off-roaders and thousands of fans came to Walnut just for this event.

Local pro-racer, Chad Weinen, from Galena, IL, brought two busses full of fans. He says, “This is my hometown track so it’s an awesome atmosphere.” Weinen is a two-time champion.

Many racers say Sunset Ridge is one of their favorite places to ride.

Thomas Brown, pro-racer from North Dallas, TX, says, “I’m super pumped. I’m ready for this track. It’s one of the best in the country.”
