"Fizz, Boom, Read" inspires kids and adults to read

Posted: Updated:
Kids were doing more than reading Saturday at the Davenport library.

They kicked off their summer reading program at the Fairmount branch with a twist.

The theme is "Fizz, Boom, Read," with exploding soda bottles and erupting volcanoes.

Organizers say it's a great way to get kids excited about reading.

"The library is not just the place where we keep musty books," marketing and programming supervising librarian Liza Gilbert said. "We're doing a lot of cool things at the library. We have activities, we have speakers that are coming with some live animals, we have all kinds of events, so we're not just a place where you have to be quiet."

The program is open to readers of all ages.
