The Davenport School Board could set new school start times at its meeting Monday night for the upcoming school year.

Last month, the board gave parents a list of nine options they could give their input on.

Now the administration has recommended an option known as "Option C” and it’s up for approval at Monday’s board meeting.

It uses 7:55 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 9:05 a.m. as the district-wide start times.

Most elementary schools would begin at 7:55 a.m. including Adams, Buchanan, Buffalo, Eisenhower, Fillmore, Garfield, Hayes, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe and Truman. Dismissal would be at 2:45 p.m.

All the city’s public high schools would begin at 8:30 a.m. along with McKinley and Washington Elementary and the district’s alternative programs. Dismissal for these schools would be at 3:20 p.m.

The district’s intermediate schools would start last at 9:05 a.m. along with Blue Grass, Harrison and Wilson elementary schools. These schools would be dismissed at 3:55 p.m. each day.

Parents gave their input on this proposal and eight others at a series of meetings last month on the subject.

Many of those parents said at those meetings and in a poll on our website that they liked a different option best called "option E." Option E varied the least from the start times that were already in place, they said.

The district said the school board would take all the feedback into consideration when making a vote on the new start times.

Monday night’s meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the district's Achievement Service Center on Brady Street in Davenport.
