Family Celebration

Sisters celebrating the life of one of their own.

Sitting on the patio in Rock Island, Daria Marlow is surrounded by her four sisters, and other family members. They are Daria’s support system.

Daria is a survivor. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991. A malignant tumor was discovered when she had a mammogram.

Daria went through chemo, was sick. However, thankfully she has not had any re-occurrence. She has been cancer- free for 23 years.

In the past decade, the sisters have run or walked in Race for the Cure events in cities throughout the country.

This Saturday, Cindy Stewardson and Geralyn McEvoy, two of Daria’s sisters, will participate in the race in Moline.

The sisters also have tee shirts and photos from races they have been involved in throughout the United States. Des Moines, Peoria, Little Rock,

Nashville, and Washington D.C are some of the places where they have been. It’s their way to enjoy family, celebrate Daria’s life, and the lives of other survivors.

They also pay tribute to those breast cancer patients who have

passed away because of the disease.

Daria says you can beat cancer. Life can go on. She enjoys spending quality time with her family whenever they have the opportunity.

She encourages women to get their mammogram. Saturday’s Race for the Cure takes place in Moline.
