BURKE, Va., June 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A Fairfax County elementary teacher has created a menagerie of unique puppet creations to teach math in Educreatures: Math-A-Mayhem Vol. 1. Gerry Perez has combined live-action puppetry and slapstick antics to illuminate elementary mathematics in a fun and relevant way. Educreatures is produced by Pezer Pan Puppets LLC, a company started by Perez in 2012. DVD's are currently being sold through amazon.com and the company's website: www.educreatures.com. Perez and the Educreatures will be guest speakers at the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals convention in Williamsburg on June 24th.
About the Educreatures
As a teacher, Perez learned first-hand that the field of elementary math includes few options which both entertain and educate. Educreatures was developed with the express purpose of getting kids excited about math. "The characters are meant to capture children's imaginations and not patronize them. I want this show to be educational, but I recognize that it must be just as fun as a Saturday morning cartoon," said Perez. The distinctive Educreatures cast includes a samurai rooster, an alligator cook, and a kaiju fighting robot – just to name a few. The DVD includes a series of various skits, and each features a different character and a new math objective.
About Pezer Pan Puppets LLC
Five years ago, while pursuing a Master's degree in education at Virginia Commonwealth University, Gerry Perez started making puppets. Informally taught by YouTube, blogs, and trial and error, Perez learned to make professional-quality puppets and began using them in his classroom. Realizing the benefits of this type of education, Perez founded Pezer Pan Puppets LLC in 2012 and began work on Educreatures. While working as an elementary teacher during the school year, Perez developed the Educreatures over the summers and on weekends, creating the puppets and both writing and directing the show. Philip Hatter, a professional Virginia-based puppet-maker and puppeteer, performed the bulk of the acting bringing a professional look and feel to the program. Educreatures is the first DVD produced by Pezer Pan Puppets LLC, and the company intends to continue the series with at least two more volumes.
