Moline Approves Prayer At Council Meetings

Posted: Updated:
An invocation can be part of future Moline City Council Meetings. The city approved Tuesday night the second reading of an ordinance that allows it to be part of the order of business.

Moline City Clerk Tracy Koranda told KWQC-TV6 that the change stems from a recent court ruling. She said the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a ruling in May that an invocation at open government meetings did not violate the constitution, even if it were to stress Christianity.

She says after that ruling, Alderman David Parker, Jr. requested that the City of Moline include the invocation on council meeting agendas.
