Beware of Bear in Illinois

Posted: Updated:
We first heard about him around Memorial Day.. A black bear in Illinois, near Stockton.

Now, it seems he is starting to make a name for himself, moving across the state as far away as Rockford, and in the suburbs of Chicago.

Today, the DNR put out a notice, warning people to stay away from the bear if they see it, even though it's been friendly until now.

The Director suggests removing things like bird feeders, and keeping pet food, trash cans, and grills inside.

That will hopefully keep the bear away from people and let it find the way home.

DNR officials believe this is the same bear that is moving around, possibly just looking for a mate.

This is not the first time a bear has been seen in Illinois, though it is rare.

Officials say they make their way down from Wisconsin every once in awhile, before returning a short time later.
