UPDATE: The Iowa State Patrol has identified the suspect as 38-year-old James William Geronzin of Camanche, Iowa.

ORIGINAL: A man is recovering in Iowa City, after a truck that was reported stolen crashed into a tree in Camanche, Iowa.

The incident started just before midnight on Thursday, June 12, 2014, when a truck was reported stolen from a bar in Folletts, Iowa.

Officials say they found the vehicle at a nearby business.

They say they tried to talk with the driver but he took off in the truck.

Officials followed him to Camanche where the vehicle hit a barricade at 9th street and 37th avenue.

He then hit a tree ending up in a creek area.

The fire department was called in to get the driver out of the truck and he was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals with serious injuries.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt.

There is no word yet on the driver's identity or any charges he could be facing.
