Give It Your Best Shot

Posted: Updated:

Life is what you make of it! Andy Yohe and Bobby Jones are proof positive.

Both Quad Cities men are golfers, hit the ball more than 200 yards off the tee, and are very capable of shooting in the eighties.

It’s an inspiring story considering they are amputees.

Jones became a diabetic when he was ten years old. He felt like that was the end of his world. However, having his legs amputated became Bobby’s inspiration to go golfing again.

Andy Yohe was hurt in a train accident years ago. He is a double amputee. Yohe says he vowed from the very beginning to try to get back and maintain the lifestyle he wanted to lead.

Yohe has tremendous upper body strength. That compensates for the fact that he cannot drive the ball as well with his legs because of amputation.

Yohe also is a gold medal winner on the United States Paralympic Sled Hockey Team.

Both men will be among several golfers taking part in the Quad Cities Amputee Golf Outing on the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Course.

That will take place on June 21st and 22nd .

Jones says amputee golfers are one, big, support group. He says you’ve got to be willing to fight for what you want in life, doing it with a smile and a positive attitude.
