Local Transit Encouraging Riders To "Dump The Pump"

Posted: Updated:

Transportation officials are encouraging people to "Dump The Pump." They say taking the bus will help you save gas and money.

The national day encourages people to ride public transportation instead of driving.

In Iowa, it's also "Ride Transit Week." Bettendorf Transit and Davenport Citibus are encouraging people to bring a buddy and ride two for one. Local riders say they have lots of reasons for taking the bus.

"It gets me to where I need to go and I can't drive for two years because of medical issues so it helps a lot," bus rider Essence Eason said.

"It's a lot easier," bus rider Rose Brooks said. "You don't have to depend on a ride to get there."

"For me, it's the only means of transportation I have," bus rider Linda Booth said. "Otherwise I'd be stuck."

In Iowa, over 27 million rides were given on public transportation last year.
