A wet week has been sad news for the Rock Island County Fair. The Fair Board moved the event to an earlier date this year, hoping to attract more people, but instead got washed out.

"It's been a real struggle, everything has worked against us with the weather and the rain, but they're coming," said President of the Rock Island County Fair Board Jim Bohnsack.

He said they've had about 30,000 people come through so far, but they're hoping to catch up to 45,000.

"It's a family thing come out and bring your family," said Bohnsack. "The rides are reasonable, it's free admission, it's free parking."

He said it's all about bringing a little bit of country to the city with plenty of food and drinks to go with it, like funnel cakes, fried oreos and corn dogs.

Vendors said business has been slow because of the weather, but it came at the right time.

"We expect these two days especially, these two nights to be very busy and running around crazy," said worker at US Food King Linda Kozelichki.

Another food vendor said he will probably go through 200 pounds of meat this weekend.

"It's still doing pretty good though," said owner of D's Smokin' BBQ Dan Hager. "We had a lot of rain last night, but there was people still walking around."

Bohnsack said they were hoping the tractor pull would bring in a lot of people tonight, but it was canceled due to soft ground. He said there's still plenty to do.

"It's going to be tough, so we want people to come out and have a good time," said Bohnsack. "It's dry, we have a lot of black top for the carnival and the shows."

Tonight they'll also have a live band. There will be a demolition derby tomorrow on the last night of the fair.
