The summer months are a great time for produce variety at the stores and farmers markets but those items aren't as available for those on a fixed income who are homebound.
The Riverbend Food Bank dropped off boxes of fruits and vegetables to the 140 residents at Watch Hill Towers in Rock Island.
This donation offers residents a chance for healthier eating and saving money.
"Especially at the end of the month they don't have enough money cause they are on a fixed income," service coordinator Marcia Cornelis said.
"I think is the most wonderful thing to happen here in quite a while and I appreciate every bit of it," resident Betty Quist said.
Many are disabled or have to take city buses to get around, making grocery shopping more difficult.
