Man Takes Photos of Kids and Women near Pool in Galesburg

Posted: Updated:
It's a story that's on the tip of everyone's tongue in Galesburg, Il.

According to police, on Sunday, Kerry Cox, was allegedly taking pictures of women and children as they left the Lakeside Pool.

He was arrested Tuesday for disorderly conduct.

But that wasn't before a man, who kids who captured on that camera, confronted him first.

Jared Allen, who saw Cox taking the pictures on Sunday, found where Cox lived, and demanded to see the pictures deleted.

He taped the whole thing, and that video has gone for over 15,000 views in just one day.

Now, even though the pictures of kids have been deleted, and the man has been arrested, Allen says he is still nervous about what happened.

"It's just one of those things the police can't do," Allen says, explaining why we confronted Cox himself. "The police can only do so much sometimes. They did what they can, but I just felt I had to get those pictures off myself."

But, police in Galesburg, disagree.

Trying to get justice yourself, can be very dangerous.

"What's to say he doesn't come out of his house with a baseball bat? Or worse, a gun?" says Capt. Rod Riggs with Galesburg. "Or some other type of weapon, and you have nothing to defend yourself with. That's what we're for."

Riggs adds the act of comply taking photos on public property, isn't illegal. But, when it bother others and there's a complaint, police can investigate.
