He is one of the best in the business. A musician from Louisiana who loves creole music. Also  known as zydeco.

With an accordion in his hands, and a smile on his face, Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience take their Creole For Kidz program to United Neighbors in Davenport.

Simien is a two time, Grammy Award winner.  Band members also play guitars and even a form of a washboard to create the unique sound of zydeco music.

During his performance at United Neighbors, he educated the children about roots music. Zydeco is a mixture of music with a French, Irish, Spanish, Afro-Caribbean, and German influence, along with other cultures.

Terrance and the band have reached out to about a million kids in the past fifteen years through the Creole For Kidz program.

Simien has contributed to the soundtrack of several movies, films, and commercials. He appears on the soundtrack of the Disney film, The Princess and the Frog.

Zydeco blends Creole  music, blues, and rhythm and blues.  The music traces its roots to house dances where families and friends gathered for socializing.

Simien and his band will perform at the 30th annual Mississippi Valley Blues Festival this weekend in Davenport. He’ll also be involved in presenting some workshops for children.

Simien has also worked with Paul Simon, Dave Matthews, Stevie Wonder, and other very talented musicians.
