Rock Island County Issues Disaster Declaration

Posted: Updated:
Rock Island County Board Chairman Phillip B. Banaszek issued a disaster declaration due to flash flooding because of prolonged, excessive rain.

The Quad Cities set a new record of 5.11 inches of rain in a 24 hour period.

Officials say at the height of the storm, over 19,000 residents were without power.

Some communities, including East Moline, evacuated low lying areas.

There are streets that are closed due to high water.

This disaster declaration is to be used to leverage state and federal resources to assist in recovery.
