"Point Of Maturity" In Downtown Davenport Flooding

Posted: Updated:

As recovery from the flash flood begins, the fight against the Mississippi River starts in full force.

The city of Davenport told us its plan to keep the river from going any further into the downtown.

River Drive in Davenport is closed between Federal and Concord Streets and the river is rising. The city says its flood fight is at "a point of maturity."

The river is above 18.5 feet, a foot and a half higher than when the storms began with a crest expected into July 4th at 20.4 feet.

Davenport Public Works director Michael Clarke held a press conference saying the city acted as quickly as it could have and he says he was shocked by the flood forecast. Additional pumps were brought in and setup at Pershing and River Drive and also Perry Street.
