Riverboat Casino Moving To Land

Posted: Updated:
BETTENDORF, IA -- Regular customers love their riverboat casino. Brett Sanders says, "After work, I get paid every Friday so I come down here on the weekends with my dad and have a good time." He turned 21 this year. Since then, he and his dad have made the Isle of Capri a weekly tradition.

With preliminary plans to move the casino ashore, he says he'll still stay a loyal customer.

The Bettendorf city administrator, Decker Ploehn, says a land-based plan has been in the talks for the past six years. "This was more of a decision for the Isle when it was appropriate for them to make an economic decision to make the investment. We're really glad to see that it's going to happen now."

The new casino on-land will be around 70,000 square feet. This is about the same size as the current boat. It will also be one story. Currently, there is an empty courtyard north of the hotel, which is where they plan on building the new casino. The current towers of the hotel will stay where they are. City leaders say the Isle of Capri plans to break ground as soon as the council approves the plans.

So in the future, the new casino won't be far from its original home so customers can still enjoy the riverfront view, and hopefully go home with a little extra cash in their pockets.
