A Sergeant In The Ranks

Posted: Updated:
Ryan Sergeant is trying to play his way into the John Deere Golf Classic.

The 25 year old says he is not a long ball hitter. He drives the ball about 280 yards off the tee.

Sergeant has a nice touch around the green, and is coming off of a breakthrough year in 2013;

sinking clutch putts and playing the strongest golf of his life.

He was last year’s Player of the Year on the Quad City Amateur Tour.

Sergeant is the Assistant Pro at Crow Valley. He played college golf at Black Hawk and Saint Ambrose.

He hopes his driving, putting, and chipping will help him to land a spot in next week’s PGA Tour Event at Deere Run in Silvis.

Winning player of the year in 2013 provided Sergeant with a free spot in the John Deere Classic Qualifier at Pinnacle in Milan.

Sergeant started playing golf in the eighth grade. He has two aces in his career. A hole in one while in high school, and one in

college at Black Hawk.

Ryan says he has learned to toughen his mental approach to the game, letting the bad shots go. Realizing he is not going to hit the ball perfectly all the time.

His course management has improved, and Sergeant has elevated his short game.

Opportunity knocks and “The Sergeant” hopes to take advantage.
