RUSKIN, FL (WFLA) - A boat outing on the Fourth of July turned deadly for a 38-year-old man Friday.

The single vessel crash occurred off River Drive Southwest west of U.S. 41, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission official said.

Three people were on board the 20-foot boat at the time of the accident; one died, FWC spokesman Baryl Martin said.

Sean T. McCarthy, 38, of 1510 River Drive Southwest in Ruskin, was operating the boat when it crashed into a thicket of mangroves.

McCarthy fell into the water. The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue dispatched a Marine unit to the accident scene shortly before sunset Friday. McCarthy's body was pulled from the water about an hour later .

The other two passengers, Yunisdel Miguel Perez Gonzalez and Mariah Elizabeth Perez Gonzalez, both 22 of 1725 Happy Acres Lane in Valrico, were not injured.

An initial report indicated the boat had flipped.

The investigation has been turned over to the FWC.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident, Martin said. Open containers were found on the boat.
